Continuing with our coverage of the 2009 Acadamy Awards major nominees and their betting odds, we will take a look at Best Picture nominee 'Milk'. Online sports book Bodog (Bodoglife.com) lists 'Milk',at 12/1 odds as a legitimate contender to win Best Picture after Slumdog Millionaire, installed on the Bodog sports book betting board at 2/17 odds. Other Best Picture nominees are 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'(8/1), 'The Reader' (20/1) and 'Frost/Nixon' at 30/1.
"I like 'Milk' at 12/1 odds to win Best Picture," said entertainment and sports gambling handicapper Reno Gold. "it would be considered a major upset to knock of 'Slumdog Millionaire' but it can happen. Sean Penn brings lots of star power to a tremendous story."
'Milk' charts the last eight years of Harvey Milk's life. While living in New York City, he turns 40. Looking for more purpose, Milk and his lover Scott Smith (James Franco) relocate to San Francisco, where they found a small business, Castro Camera, in the heart of a working-class neighborhood. With his beloved Castro neighborhood and beautiful city empowering him, Milk surprises Scott and himself by becoming an outspoken agent for change. In 1977, Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum.
