American Idol 2010: Boys Nervous in Week 1

by Rachel Quinn on Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Simon Cowell might be right when he says the girls might take American Idol this 9th season of the show.  The guys seemed very nervous and tried but failed to sing their hearts out in week 1 of one of the most popular shows to hit American television.  With that said, don’t count all the guys out just yet.  BODOG.com has your complete list and best odds for the 2010 American Idol Season 9 favorites.

American Idol Boys Recap Week 1One of my personal favorites but underdog is 23 year old Lee Dewyze (50 to 1 odds) not only for his cute looks but for his raspy renditions of some of my favorite songs.  Tonight he sang Chasing Cars’ “Eyes Open” and seemed to have gotten Simon’s approval (even if the other judges disagreed) of song choice and performance adding in, “I thought this was the best performance of the night.  You have an authentically good voice and I think you’re going to do very well in this competition.”

Speaking of underdogs, Joe Munoz got a good response from the judges with all commenting on his great performance all the while showing confidence on stage.  Of course, Simon adding in that his was, “Ok, safe, and an unforgettable performance.”  I’m opting to disagree.

Another good performance of the night came from (35 to 1 odds) Alex Lambert (no relation to last season’s contestant Adam Lambert) who did bring an uncomfortable look on stage but good voice.  Simon seems to agree by telling Alex, “That was the most uncomfortable performance of the night.  You have a good voice.  I really feel for you.  If it’s uncomfortable for you then it’s uncomfortable for the people watching you.”

The winner seems to be the overall favorite, Andrew Garcia (9 to 2 odds), not to disappoint the bookies out there I was happy to see he brought a solid performance.  However, the judges did expect more from this remarkable singer and he’ll need to bring an even better performance next week.  But don’t count this guitar playing talent out this week because I definitely KNOW he’ll be back for week 2 in American Idol Season 9.

Downers are downers and there were a few that will be looking to not go home Thursday night.  One of the two will be second chance contestant Tim Urban (25 to 1 odds) who replaced Chris GoLightly.  The 20 year old sang One Republic’s “Apologize” out of tune and the judges had the comments to match.  Simon Cowell stating, “We absolutely made the right decision not putting you through.”  And Randy Jackson adding in, “It was the wrong song for you.  It just didn’t’ work.”

The other to add to the downers list would be John Park (45 to 1 odds). At the beginning, I wanted to support this 21 year old Asian cutie all the way but after tonight’s performance I wanted to turn the volume down.  Simon would agree by stating, “You have to have an incredible voice to sing that song and you don’t have it.  It left me flat.”
