With all the hype of James Cameron’s production of Avatar, he’s proven that he’s got a winner on his hands. The movie is bringing in nine nominations at this years Academy Awards and I’m sure Cameron is hoping to take all nine home. How many do you think he’ll accept? James Cameron seems to have written and directed a masterpiece in the 2009 science fiction film, Avatar. Originally meant to makes its debut in 1999, Cameron opted to hold production due to the lack of technology that was needed to really bring his creations to life. To fill the time he began to concentrate on the fictional universe in the year 2154 that his alien looking characters would be living in along with their unusual made up language that his actors would have to learn. The film’s title refers to the genetically engineered Na’vi and human hybrid bodies used by human characters to interact with the natives of Pandora.
I’m sure people gasped when they heard that Avatar ended up costing a total of $237 million but were pleased to know that James Cameron pulled in a record breaking $2.5 billion. The lucky actors that were chosen to bring these creatures to live were some known and unknowns, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Sigourney Weaver, and Michelle Rodriguez.
James Cameron put his heart and soul in this production and in the end has brought in several awards. However, this director is now looking to bring in all nine of his Academy Award nominations in which include Best Picture and Best Director. He has stated that there will be a sequel to this movie sometime in the near future. I would hope so.
