American Idol 2010: Idol Gives Back, Tim Urban Goes HomeThe night started out with a message thanking American Idol for Idol Gives Back from President Obama and the First Lady. Due to the special night, not only did they film from the American Idol stage in Hollywood but Queen Latifah was also in Pasadena, CA with a live studio audience and performers like the Black Eyed Peas. To start out the show, the Top 12 Idols were brought back together for the first time.

Focusing on the children in America, actress Jennifer Garner brought awareness to the charity “Save the Children” when she went to West Virginia to see how the program was helping in the area – Victoria Beckham did the same in Kentucky. Ryan Seacrest had traveled to Africa to see what Malaria was doing to the country and what was being done to fight it. Actor Morgan Freeman also made an appearance on the Idol stage and traveled to Mississippi with Randy Jackson to see how “Save the Children” was helping the community. Ellen DeGeneres connected with David Arquette in California for “Feeding America” in which David has been a true activist for the charity. Season 7 winner David Cook has been doing his part and recently traveled Ethiopia where he visited an all girl school that gives girls hope after they no longer have a family. Rounding out the charity work, Simon Cowell traveled to Arizona to meet with a doctor that travels to poor communities in a Mobile Clinic through the help of “Children’s Health Projects”.

With amazing stories and great charities, there was great talent as well. The Black Eyed Peas started out the show in Pasadena with “Rock that Body”.  Joss Stone continued the entertainment with “I Put a Spell on You” with guitarist Jeff Black. Former Idol Carrie Underwood got on the stage as well and later announced that $.36 of every ticket sale on her tour would be donated to Idol Gives Back. Annie Lenox had planned on performing in Pasadena but was stuck in London because of the volcano in Iceland. However, she did do a recorded performance along with a message to viewers to make up for her absence. Elton John ended the night out of the Pasadena auditorium with a strong message on HIV prevention and performed “Your Song”.

Back at the Idol stage, the talent started out with comedian George Lopez who did a great Ryan Seacrest impersonation when he called out the judges instead of the contestants. But things got back to the serious side when Crystal Bowersox and Casey James were called to center stage and Casey started out the bottom three. Aaron Kelly and Lee Dewyze were next to be called down to the stage and Aaron was the second to be added to the bottom three.

Alicia Keys who was this week’s mentor got on the Idol stage to perform and comedian Wanda Sykes got up there to poke fun at the judges as well. The remaining Idols were then call to center stage with both Siobhan Magus and Michael Lynche safe in Week 9. However, Tim Urban rounded out the bottom three. Finishing the night of performances on the American Idol stage was Mary J. Blige and the Allstar Band performing “Stairway to Heaven”. In the end, Tim Urban was the one sent home.
