20-year-old Ashley Strohmier has been working towards getting the Miss Missouri crown for three years and she finally got it on that third try. She came in as 1st runner-up in the Miss Missouri Teen USA pageant in 2007. On her first try in 2008, she placed 2nd runner-up in the Miss Missouri pageant and then placed 3rd runner-up in the 2009 pageant. Now that she had achieved her goal as Miss Missouri, she’ll be now working towards obtaining the 2010 Miss USA crown.
“It’s just overwhelming,” Ashley’s mother, Dana Strohmier said. “It’s almost as if the entire population of Jefferson City, Missouri is rallied around Ashley. Ashley is a down-to-earth girl. Regardless of the fame, she is still just Ashley. In public events she doesn’t wear her crown much as she feels like it makes people uncomfortable to approach her. She’s very morally grounded and has a strong heart for children.”
Coming in at +2000 odds, Ashley Strohmier was born in Kentucky but moved to Missouri when she was 7. She is now attending the University of Central Missouri and majoring in criminal justice and political science with a concentration on pre-law. Her parents couldn’t be happier to see their daughter represent Missouri in the 2010 Miss USA pageant this Sunday.
