Chelsea won 2-0 at Newcastle on Monday to keep their Soccer Betting Premier League title hopes alive. With the win they drew even with Manchester United in the standings although United holds the goal difference advantage.  Chelsea will now need to win their final game at home against Bolton and hope that United either loses or ties at Wigan.

Chelsea didn’t score the first goal of the game against Newcastle until the 61st minute as a foul was called on Newcastle’s Abdoulaye Faye. Didier Drogba was able to put the ball into position for Michael Ballack who put a header past Steve Harper.  The Blues scored their second goal as Florent Malouda took a pass from Frank Lampard and scored in the 81st minute.

Newcastle almost scored first in the 29th minute but Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech blocked a shot by Mark Viduka and then John Terry made a great clear of a rebound to save the Blues.  Ballack could have scored in the first half for Chelsea but missed wide.  Chelsea pressed into the second half and all of the pressure finally paid off with Ballack’s goal.  Newcastle tried to tie it but never could get anything past Cech and Malouda’s goal then put the game out of reach.  Essien almost added a third goal in stoppage time for Chelsea but was denied. Manchester United had no trouble on Saturday against West Ham, winning 4-1 at Old Trafford.  United got two more goals from Christiano Ronaldo to get the easy win against West Ham.  Carlos Tevez and Michael Carrick also scored.  Manchester United played without Wayne Rooney and Nani was lost in the first half after receiving a red card.

With United and Chelsea both winning it sets up an exciting final week with United needing a win at Wigan to clinch the Premier League title.
