Inter Milan is trying to give away the Serie A title this season.  With one game left Milan’s lead has been cut to one point after AS Roma defeated Atalanta 2-1 on Sunday.  Christian Panucci and Daniele De Rossi scored for Roma in the victory. Inter Milan played to a 2-2 at home to Siena.  It was a game that Milan should have won but Marco Materazzi missed a penalty in the 78th minute. "This failure by Inter was unexpected and gives us a chance to keep trying," Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said.

Inter leads Serie A with 82 points, while Roma has 81. The last games will have a lot of drama since Inter plays at Parma, which must win to avoid relegation. Roma plays at Catania, which will be relegated if it loses and Parma wins. It is possible that Roma could play to a draw and if Inter loses that would leave the teams tied. If that happens Inter would win the title since they have the better record against Roma this season in head-to-head matches. "The last game will be 90 minutes of high tension and we'll keep our eye on what Parma is doing," De Rossi said.

Inter will only have themselves to blame if they blow the title.  They had Siena down early as Patrick Vieira headed in a corner by Mario Balotelli. Massimo Maccarone tied it for Siena in the 30th minute, before Balotelli scored just before the half to give Inter the lead. Houssine Kharja tied it for Siena in the 69th minute. "We had many chances to score and close out the game, but unfortunately we didn't manage it and now we have to go to Parma and win," Inter coach Roberto Mancini said. "At the beginning of the second half, we could have gone up 3-1 and that would have closed out the game. Then we had the penalty - we had our chances."

What makes next week’s games so intriguing is that the relegation battle is on the line in addition to the Serie A title.  Catania has 36 point while Parma has 34 points.  A draw by Catania against Roma would be enough for them to take the last spot.  Parma must win and hope that Catania loses.  Empoli is also very much in this picture as well.  They have 33 points and play Livorno who is already relegated.  If Empoli gets the win as expected and Parma and Catania both lose, then Empoli would get the last spot.  With the Serie A title on the line that is definitely possible as Inter and Roma know they both need to win.
