Nicknamed Super Eagles, the +10000 odds Nigeria national football team hasn’t really had the extensive World Cup history as some of the other teams at this year’s Cup. They started to compete in 1962 but didn’t qualify until 1994 in which they made it to the 16th round. They repeated that 16th round placement in 1998 and couldn’t get past the 1st round in 2002. Not qualifying in the last World Cup, Nigeria is in high hopes to go all the way this year.

Drawing Group B, Nigeria will be competing in the 1st round against Argentina, Greece, and South Korea. They will be the 3rd match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup going up against Argentina on June 12th out of Johannesburg. Key players will be Joseph Yobo and Yakubu Aiyegbeni. Yobo is a quick and strong defender but is prone to lapses of concentration. Yakubu can be a deceptively sluggish player but on a good day is one of the most deadly finishers in the competition.
“We cannot go into any match with fear. We must go there with the belief that we can win every match we play, it doesn't matter whether it is Argentina, or Brazil or Greece,” Nigeria manager Lars Lagerbeck said. “If we practice well, and play with hard work and confidence then we can win and we can go far in the World Cup.”
