After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the Slovakia national football team who’s coming in at +40000 odds had been formed. Slovakia will be joining and going though the first round against New Zealand, Italy, and Paraguay after drawing Group F. Their first match will be the 12th overall match of the World Cup against New Zealand on June 15th out of Rustenburg. Although suffering from an ankle injury, defender Martin Skrtel will try his best in the 2010 World Cup. Two other strong players will be team captain Marek Hamsik and striker Stanislav Sestak who both have proved to be a threat on the field. Coach Vladimir Weiss has also added his son, 19-year-old Vladimir junior, on the team who has been making a good impression on the field.
"We have nothing to lose. The fact we are participating is already a big achievement, so now we can play freely,” forward Stanislav Sestak said. “We want to reach the second round. Italy are obviously the big favourites to win the group, but the game against Paraguay will be close and we reckon we can beat New Zealand too."
