The Soccer Betting Euro 2008 semifinals are set after some thrilling matches and big upsets over the weekend. There are now two clear cut favorites in the semifinals with Germany facing Turkey and Spain playing Russia. The Germans will be the biggest favorite in the semifinals as very few people are giving Turkey a chance, especially since they will be missing as many as nine starters for their match on Wednesday. Germany will definitely be favored and expected to win that match. They will also have the added pressure of playing before Chancellor Angela Merkel who is expected to attend the match. She was in attendance for the 1-0 win against Austria in group play and was present for Germany’s third place finish in the 2006 World Cup. The match on Thursday is expected to be so popular in Germany that many employers with late shift workers are expected to shorten the time workers are scheduled so they can be home to watch the match. Soccer Betting at SBG Global. Spain is favored over Russia in the other semifinal match on Thursday. The Spanish team was able to get by Italy on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals. Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas saved penalties from Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Di Natale while Cesc Fabregas scored the winner as Spain won 4-2 on penalty kicks after an uneventful 0-0 draw. Italy coach Roberto Donadoni is now under heat after the loss. "I've never had much luck with penalties over the course of my career," Donadoni said. "I lost an under-21 final on penalties and a World Cup final. We've got to hold our heads high, but obviously a defeat like this has its weight." Italy is now 2-5 in shootouts and losing this one was very painful. "Losing is always bitter, but when you lose on penalties it burns even more," veteran Italy forward Alessandro Del Piero said. "But let's not talk about bad luck. It's not anyone's fault." Russia was able to get to the semifinals by shocking the Netherlands in the quarterfinals. Many people had penciled the Netherlands into the Final but Russia had other plans. Russia scored twice in extra time to win 3-1 and had more energy down the stretch than the Netherlands. That could be a big key again in their match against Spain. Russia definitely has a coach that knows how to win. Guus Hiddink was getting a lot of credit for the upset win against the Netherlands and no one is discounting him now against Spain. “If people think that Russia is the same rival we met in the group stage they are mistaken," Spain’s Fabregas said. "We have to keep our feet on the ground." Spain defeated Russia 4-1 in its Group D opener, but Russia has been strong since. - Receive up to 135% in Total Bonuses from SBG Global!
