Argentina vs Belgium Odds 2014 World Cup Predictions

belgium vincent kompanyArgentina, one of the favorites to win the World Cup (currently listed at 4 to 1 World Cup odds), will look to secure its first World Cup semifinals appearance since 1990 when it takes the pitch opposite Belgium on Saturday, July 5th. This weekend’s meeting between the two squads is scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) at the Estadio Nacional in Brasilia; match coverage will be provided by ABC. The latest 2014 World Cup picks from like Argentina and the Under 2.5 goals at +155 and -150 money line odds, respectively. Belgium, which has made it past the quarterfinals at the World Cup just one time, is drawing a +250 line to advance to next week’s semifinals.

Argentina has, in many ways, not lived up to its World Cup expectations. The La Albiceleste have scored just one goal in two of their three matches and they have not won a single match by more than one goal. Nonetheless, they have yet to lose or draw in this tournament.

However, Lionel Messi and company’s most difficult challenge may be in the offing. Belgium extended its 2014 World Cup record to 4-0-0 as well on Tuesday, defeating a gritty but too often sloppy United States team 2-1 in extra time.

In spite of needing the extra minutes to slip past the Americans, Belgium took it to Jurgen Klinsmann’s crew. The Belgians attempted a staggering 39 shots, 17 shots on goal and 19 corners in the victory. U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard, who registered an incredible 15 saves, was the only reason his team did not fall in embarrassing fashion to Belgium.

The more technically sound Argentinians will present Belgium with more problems than the United States or any of the Red Devils other three World Cup opponents (Algeria, Russia and South Korea), though.

The opening line in Saturday’s match reflects as much. Underdog status is something Belgium has not yet experienced this World Cup, but captain Vincent Kompany indicated he and his mates will embrace the change.

“That is a role that will now suit us,” Kompany said.
