Jose Mourinho's personal assistant has played down rumours that the 44-year-old is using the England job speculation as a negotiating tool to help him win a big club in Europe.

Mourinho is the favourite to be the next England coach with rumours suggesting the FA could cough up as much as £6million a year to attract their man. Many believe Mourinho wants to stay in club management with AC Milan one of the main fancies.

AC Milan are rated at 10/1 to win the Champions League.

Mourinho's assistant Eladio Parames says there is no question his boss would play off one job to land another. "That is all lies. Mourinho would never do that," Parames is quoted as saying.

FA chief executive Brian Barwick is not believed to have made an approach. Also involved is director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking who has also been included in the task of finding the next England coach.

Jose Mourinho being EvasiveMourinho was evasive when British TV crew arrived at his home in Setubal and quizzed him on this doorstep.

Mourinho has wisely taken his family on holiday to avoid the media circus and Parames said that any potential employers would need to go through Mourinho´s agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes is the representative for several Portuguese stars that play in Europe´s biggest leagues.

"Jose has not been contacted by any club or even the FA, so there have been no developments in his situation," said Parames.

"If any club is interested in talking to him they must contact Jorge Mendes.

"Nothing has happened. It is all just speculation."
