Former Everton manager Howard Kendall has incredibly thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Republic of Ireland job. Surely there´s more chance of a leprechaun becoming next Irish boss!

His former club are rated at 4/7 to beat Fulham this weekend.

The 61-year-old last managed a football club in 1998 during a second unsuccessful spell at Everton. Kendall reckons his knowledge of the game makes him a genuine candidate. Kendall has said he intends to make Peter Beardsley his number two if he lands the job.Kendall for Ireland?

"I've had long enough out of it now and I feel it would be perfect for me and hopefully for them. I've made some enquiries," said Kendall.

When questioned on his time spent away from the game he replied.

"Look at the CV and go through the history of what I've done," he added.

As a player Kendall excelled for Preston, Everton, Birmingham and Stoke. His first job as a manager was with Blackburn.

The former First Division, FA Cup and Uefa Cup winner with Everton has also managed in Spain and Greece.

Kendall added: "I am in touch with the modern game, I write a column in the local newspaper and I go and watch Premier League football every week.

"I know who I would put in place. If he was interested, the likes of Peter Beardsley, I think he would be superb. I have spoken to Peter and he said he would love to work with me again."
