Ferguson´s comments came after the Red Devils 4-0 destruction of Sunderland.
Rooney scored with a 20th-minute openin goal. It was Rooney´s first strike for two months and he then set up Louis Saha for the second at the Stadium of Light.
Said Rooney: "I have said before that strikers do go on little runs like that. It is his first goal for six games, but his goals have come in waves. When he got his injury (in the opening game against Reading), he was out for a month and since then, he has been gradually getting towards what we have seen of him here." It is now perfectly clear that Keane has an enormous job on his hands if he is to keep the Black Cats in the Premiership. Cristiano Ronaldo was in blinding form and had made Mackems keeper Craig Gordon into a number of saves before he struck in first-half injury-time with United´s third goal. To complete the rout, Saha doubled up with an 86th-minute penalty. Ferguson was delighted: "It was an excellent performance, I thought the passing and movement was excellent. "The first goal put us in the driving seat because we knew Sunderland were going through a bit of a sticky patch. "It was a marvellous move for the first goal and after that, we did play well."
