Pompey soccer boss Harry Redknapp has claimed Fabio Capello take a look at club keeper David James to solve the current England keeper crisis.
James, who plays in goal for Portsmouth, has a reputation for inconsistency after a series of goalkeeping clangers in his experienced career. England are 4/5 to win their Group 6 World Cup 2010 qualification table. Capello takes up the reins as England manager this week. Capello´s first game will be against Switzerland in less than a month.
Redknapp is convinced Capello should use the 37-year-old former Watford and Liverpool custodian as the national side´s No1. "Jessie is just so dedicated," Redknapp said after his club beat Ipswich in the FA Cup 3rd round.
"He made three saves against Ipswich no-one else would have done. He has got everything. Their fans were singing 'England's number four' - well I would like to see the other three." Capello was spotted at a few FA Cup games at the weekend. Aston Villa keeper Scott Carson would not have impressed with some handling errors in losing to Manchester United. Spurs keeper Paul Robinson was at fault for one of Reading's goals in the 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane. Robbo is still clearly struggling. Capello´s first day in charge will be made up of a raft of meetings in central London.
