The Los Angeles Galaxy and soccer star David Beckham were throttled in their MLS opener on Saturday as Colorado shut them out 4-0. Beckham and the rest of the team struggled at the high altitude in Denver, Colorado. Soccer Betting at SBG Global.
"It is always going to be tough when you travel when you have got international games," Beckham said, "It is always tough when you are back from England and you are adjusting to the time difference. I felt ok for most of the match but I was maybe not at my sharpest and maybe the altitude had something to do with that."
Terry Cooke started the scoring for Colorado and things got worse for Los Angeles after that as defender Abel Xavier fouled Rapids forward Omar Cummings inside the penalty area. Christian Gomez scored and the game was really over. "I find it hard not to criticize some of the decisions tonight but I've been told I'll be fined if I do," said Beckham. "But certain decisions change games. I think that has happened tonight." Cumming scored the third goal for Colorado while Colin Clark scored the final goal.
In other MLS action, home teams got three wins and two draws. The New England Revolution routed the Houston Dynamo in a rematch of last year’s MLS Cup by a score of 3-0. It was a revenge game for New England as they have lost the last two MLS championships to Houston. The Kansas City Wizards made their debut at Community America Ballpark and won 2-0 over D.C. United in front of a sellout crowd. Columbus defeated Toronto FC 2-0 as Adam Moffat scored in the 26th minute.
It was the first goal of the new MLS season. Chicago and Real Salt Lake played to a 1-1 tie and Chivas USA and FC Dallas also played to a 1-1 draw. The tie for Chicago was very fortunate as Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored in stoppage time to tie it for Chicago. Chivas was also fortunate to get their tie as they scored the tying goal with just six minutes left. FC Dallas defender Duilio Davino misplayed a ball and Maykel Galindo was able to get a shot through Dario Sala for the tying goal.
