Scotland manager Alex McLeish has revealed he turned down a recent approach about a job with a Barclays Premier League club.

Former Rangers boss McLeish took charge of the national team in January after Walter Smith resigned to embark on a second spell at Ibrox.

McLeish told Real Radio: "I don't know if many people know about it but I was approached about a bit of interest regarding a job a few weeks ago. I said there was no way I'd leave the Scotland job at this juncture. Had this approach come before the Scotland job I would have looked at it."

He added: "But I'm 100% committed to the job I'm in. If I was to declare an interest in this job the Tartan Army would string me up.

"I want to clarify that I was not actually offered this job, I was asked if I'd be interested in talking to them.

"It was a representative (who) I believe was acting on behalf of a Premiership club.

"The decision was a doddle. I said it was the wrong time and not for me just now."

Scotland remain in with a strong chance of qualifying for Euro 2008, and face big matches against Lithuania, France, Ukraine, Georgia and Italy which will make or break their campaign.
