In a fight that was supposed to matchup both coaches from “The Ultimate Fighter 10: Heavyweights”, Silva was chosen to take on Evans in place of Quinton “Mr. T” Jackson.
“If a reporter asks me a question about Rampage and I answer it, how does that translate into me looking past Thiago?” Evans asked. “I guess the way I’d look at it is, maybe the reporter who is asking me about Rampage instead of Thiago is the one looking past Thiago. But it ain’t me looking past him, I can honestly tell you that.
But instead of watching some “black-on-black” crime, you’ll just have to settle for the second best thing: black-on-Brazilian crime.
“When they asked me about this fight, there was never any doubt or any question,” Silva said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to prove myself against one of the top guys in the world. If Rashad isn’t the best (light heavyweight), there aren’t too many who are better. That’s good for me because I want to show what I can do against guys like this.”
Evans, a former UFC light heavyweight champ, is on a mission to earn a rematch with the reigning title-holder, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida. “Being able to get right back in the mix and right back into a main event is an honor,” Evans stated on the UFC’s official site. “This is the first step in getting my title back. Thiago is a dangerous fighter standing up and on the ground and I always relish an opportunity to fight the best and put on a great show for the fans.”
