Allan Green vs Rubin Williams is expected to be a showcase fight for the 168 Lb. contender Green, showcase meaning a beatdown should occur. I have yet to see an Over\Under line on this 2008 ESPN Friday Night Fights opener, but I would be a little surprised if Williams saw the final bell at the end of the 10th round.  BodogLife.com has Allan Green as a -875 boxing betting favorite.

The 31-year-old Williams has fought just 3 bouts in the last 2 years and when he most recently was on the “Contender” reality TV series he was cut in the testing stage due to poor conditioning and slow reaction time. Rubin is no complete bum as his record of, 29-2-1, 16 KO’s, indicates but he is well past his prime and whenever he has faced B level competition or better he has faltered. The 6'0" Williams is a boxer that likes to use his long arms to work off the jab and he has gotten quality sparring leading up to this fight, working with cruiserweight prospect Jonathan Banks, 18-0, 13 KO’s, so Williams will be ready to fight. Williams has been fairly durable throughout his career so it is possible that he could go the distance and survive if he lets Green coast and build points, but if Williams wants to win he will need to take some chances.Friday Night Fights: Allan Green vs Rubin Williams

Green is a talent that has some real quality tools in his arsenal. Allan is tall 6'2", a crisp puncher with slick defense and real confidence. The 28-year-old Green, 28-1, 18 KO’s, is a former National Golden Gloves champion with a left hook that has real dynamite in it. The one knock on the rangy boxer\puncher Green is that he can be hurt by guys who can punch and will someday get KO’d bad. Williams is a decent puncher with above-average handspeed that could hurt Green if he can manage to land some leather, but that is unlikely unless Green takes a picture of his punches as he sometimes does. Bettors should go heavy on Green but not all out as betting on a fighter with a suspect chin always has inherent risk no matter how much of a mismatch the fight appears to be.
