Paulie Malignaggi vs Herman Ngoudjo will fight a 12 round minor title fight in New, Jersey marking Malingnaggi’s first defense of his 140 Lb. title against the hungry Canadian Ngoudjo. Paulie is a budding superstar in boxing with his outgoing persona and superlative boxing skills. With the fight being held in Atlantic, City it is apparent that Malignaggi is trying to fill the superstar void left by the recently retired Arturo Gatti. BodogLife.com has Paulie Malignaggi as a -800 boxing betting favorite. Ngoudjo, 16-1, 9 KO’s, earned his shot at the title with a disputed decision over hard punching Randall Bailey. The 28-year-old Cameroonian Herman is a former Canadian Olympic representative that is technically very sound but not very good in any one area. Ngoudjo employs a high guard with a tight defense that he uses to set up his volume of punches to the head and body. Herman has excellent stamina, good power, usually wearing down opponents late with combinations to the body. Ngoudjo’s sole loss was a split decision to teak tough Mexican contender Jose Luis Castillo. Trained by highly regarded trainers Otis Grant and Howard Grant, Herman knows how to execute a game plan and he will surely use a stiff jab to offset Malignaggi’s speed but at times he is too defensive minded. Trained by top trainer Buddy McGirt, Paulie is a pure boxer that does his work on the move with great footwork that he uses to set up his lightning quick left jab that he throws with great frequency. Malignaggi, 23-1, 5 KO’s, is a joy to watch for boxing purists, with his use of defensive tactics such as the pull back, slips, ducks, parries, and shoulder rolls to artistic perfection. The 27-year-old Italian is very smart with his impeccable sense of distance and ability to use his physical strength on the inside to tie opponents up, infuriating them. Paulie is always in terrific condition which is necessary for his darting style with perpetual movement. BodogLife.com has the OVER\UNDER at 11.5 rounds with the OVER at -600. Paulie is not a big banger however, and he has chronic hand problems and is also susceptible to cuts. I like Paulie to jab his way to a decisive victory in front of a home crowd, but the odds are too rich on this fight for my taste. If Paulie breaks his right hand Ngoudgo could make things interesting if he opens up. EinsteinPicks has the best boxing connections in the game.
