In the opening frame, Jones appeared to be sizing up Trinidad as the Puerto Rican slugger came forward, ripping hooks to the body with max effort. Jones caught a majority of the shots with his arms and elbows, but the body shots that managed to get in landed with a thud. In the second round, Roy started responding with smoking body shots of his own, but Trinidad was the aggressor, throwing more hard punches.

Roy Jones Jr. vs Felix Trinidad Fight ResultIn the 3rd round, Roy started counterpunching Trinidad, effectively utilizing a sniper counter left hook to offset Tito’s body attack. Jones began to find a permanent home for his right hand in the 4th round utilizing a lead right hand with perfect timing and accuracy.

With Trinidad retreating in the 7th round from Jones's sharp punches, he was drilled with a jolting right cross to the temple that folded his legs in the corner for a knockdown. Felix survived the round, but he was now the hunted. In the 10th round, Trinidad was caught with a snapping Jones jab followed by a glancing right hand to the chin that dropped him off-balance for another knockdown.

Down the stretch Jones simply had too much speed, defense and counterpunching ability for the one-dimensional Trinidad. Jones no longer darts in and out with his legs like in his youth, but he used a catch and counter style that served him well against a live Trinidad. Felix still can fight and could be in line for another big money fight, but he simply wasn’t big or fast enough for a still vibrant 39-year-old Jones. Final scores read: 117-109, 116-110, 116-110, all for Jones.
