by Steve Hastings on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

The light heavyweight division in mixed martial art is one of the tightest classes in all of combat sports. Who is the number one fighter at 205 pounds? The division is full of MMA stars that do not even make the list like Houston Alexander. This division was once dominated by Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva. However, with recent poor showings in the ring, the rankings are wide open with many fighters vying to be the best light heavyweight fighter in the world.

This MMA Light Heavyweight Top 10 List has been provide to Sports-Odds.com by MMA Betting Expert Stan Leung of Fighting-MMA.com and is sponsored by BodogLife.com.  Bet on UFC 81 Breaking Point at BodogLife.com.  Below is a comprehensive list of the Top 10 MMA Light Heavyweight Fighters in the world:

MMA Light Heavyweight Top 10 List10.) Tito Ortiz – Ortiz has the work ethic and training to be a top light heavyweight but he needs to prove it in the ring. His last fight with Evans was disappointing.

9.) Keith Jardine – Jardine is an up and down fighter. He loses to some fighters he should beat but he dominated Chuck Liddell with a three round ass kicking.

8.) Antonio Rogerio Nogueira – Little Nog is suppose to have as much skill on the ground as his twin brother but he has had upsetting loses. With his skills and talent he should be top 5 but he needs to show it.

7.) Wanderlei Silva – With loses to Liddell, Henderson and Cro Cop, Silva is needs to revamp his game. Wanderlei Silva has the skills to beat anyone but he just needs to.

6.) Chuck Liddell – Chuck needs to stop partying and train harder and better. If Chuck Liddell does not focus on fighting he will falling out of the top ten because he is a one dimensional fighter.

5.) Ricardo Arona – He has probably the best skills on the ground but Arona needs to learn better striking skills. Ricardo Arona’s stand up skills are awkward and technically not as sound as the rest of the top ten.

4.) Ryoto Machida – Machida flies up the top ten. His striking is unorthodox but very precise. Ryoto Machida’s ground and base is also very tight.

3.) Forrest Griffin – Griffin beat Shogun, who most considered to be the top light heavyweight in the world. Forrest Griffin fights Quinton “Rampage” Jackson next and should he beat Jackson he will move to the number 1 spot.

2.) Mauricio Rua – Rua got beat down by Griffin and he slides to the number 2 spot. Eight times out of ten Mauricio Rua would beat Griffin. We have to see Shogun’s next UFC to determine how good or bad his game has become.

1.) Quinton Jackson – Rampage is the best light heavyweight in the world right now. Quinton Jackson’s striking and strengthen are second to none in the world right now.
