The long awaited return of Anderson Silva to the Octagon takes place tomorrow night in Las Vegas as the former middleweight champion squares off against Nick Diaz at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The duo are headlining UFC 183, which is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 p.m. ET. The main card can be seen live on Pay-Per-View while the prelims will air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The latest UFC 183 Betting Odds from Sportsbook.ag have Silva listed as a heavy -550 money line favorite ($550 wins $100); Diaz is drawing +400 UFC Odds to notch his 27th career win.
Anderson Silva is the standard by which all UFC fighters measure themselves as his accomplishments inside the Octagon may never be duplicated; however, the former champion enters this weekend’s fight with something to prove. Not only is Silva fighting for the first time since breaking his leg in December of 2013, he is also looking to avoid a third consecutive loss.
Silva saw his 17-fight win streak end at UFC 162 on July 6, 2013 when he was KO’ed by Chris Weidman and he lost by TKO in their December rematch due to the aforementioned leg fracture. On top of that, Silva is no spring chicken. ‘The Spider’ turns 40 in April and it is more than reasonable to think he has already peaked as a fighter.
Silva is not the only one with something to prove tomorrow night, though. Diaz, like his opponent, enjoyed a long winning streak, one that reached 11 fights with his October, 2011 win over B.J. Penn, but he too has dropped his last two scraps. Diaz suffered a unanimous decision loss to Carlos Condit in February of 2012 and he did the same just over a year later when fought Georges St. Pierre at UFC 158.
