UFC 100 Georges St Pierre vs. Thiago Alves or BJ Penn? Finally there’s more concrete information regarding The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s 100th event, UFC 100. As early as January, UFC president Dana White confirmed that UFC 100 would take place sometime in July and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, new revelations have began to surface as far as the venue for UFC 100 and perhaps more importantly, the main event for UFC 100.
But there are still 5 more events that will happen before the historic UFC 100. The first is UFC 95 Betting Odds, which takes place this Saturday, February 21st from the O2 Arena in London.
This event will be broadcasted 100% free of charge on Spike TV. In the main event of the evening, Sports Odds favorite Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez [-350] makes his lightweight debut against former title-contender and Betting underdog, Joe “Daddy” Stevenson [+250].
Despite early reports that UFC 100 would take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, which seats approximately 11,000 people, the UFC has opted for the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which boasts a capacity of nearly 15,000 seats. Another thing that has been confirmed is the exact date for UFC 100: Saturday July 11, 2009.
In this weekend’s UFC 95 on Spike: Josh Koscheck [-500] takes on Paulo Thiago [+350], Nate Marquardt [-300] faces Wilson Gouveia [+220], Dan Hardy [-120] battles Rory Markham [-110], and Demian Maia [-300] goes up against Chael Sonnen [+220].
Furthermore, White also divulged that UFC Welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre (18-2) will be defending his title at UFC 100. However, the lingering question on everyone’s mind is who will GSP face, B.J. Penn or Thiago Alves?
Thiago Alves is clearly the No.1 contender in that division. However, due to the controversial events that occurred in “UFC 94: St. Pierre vs. Penn” — where the improper application of Vaseline by St. Pierre's corner-men blemished the results — a third meeting between GSP and Penn could be implemented. If that’s the case, both Thiago Alves (16-3) and lightweight challenger Kenny Florian (11-3) would have to wait for their deserved title shots. Nevertheless, sources close to Alves have indicated that the Brazilian "currently understands he's fighting St. Pierre next."
