With a single MMA win, Jan "The Giant" Nortje has little support amongst most fans of Strikeforce MMA against the huge Bob Sapp. His single mixed martial arts win came in 2002 on New Year's Eve, and his five losses were not all ones he could brag about either. This clash of oversized men takes place on February 23rd, 2008. As of earlier today, Sportsbook.com's oddsmaker had Bob Sapp -600 odds over Jan Nortje who was listed at +450 odds. Sapp, on the other hand comes in with a record of nine wins, two losses and one draw. His fight with the former Pride and current UFC heavyweight champion was also considered one of the best fights ever, even if he did lose.
His size and brute force should be enough to beat up on even a guy who calls himself a giant. Bob Sapp has had various people helping him from UFC champions to tons of fans in Japan and with his return to the sport expect him to come out excited, explosive and victorious. The rest of the card looks like this as of earlier today. - Maurice Smith -275
- Jorge Masvidal -245
- Steve Berger -215
- Ray Perales -145
| - Rick Roufus +215
- Ryan Healy +195
- Eddy Ellis +175
- Lyle Beerbohm +115

For those looking for a little background on "The Beast," here you go: * Sapp was in the NFL for four years, but only played one game. * Sapp took on an NFL great in a Toughman contest, William "The Refrigerator" Perry. Sapp won that bout. * Bob Sapp went to pro-wrestling fighting for small promotions, the WWE and in Japan. * Sapp has had fights in both K-1 and Pride FC. * With a 10-6 kickboxing record, he was not hugely impressive, especially as some of his wins like over UFC 3's Kimo was suspect with help from sly K-1 staff. Watching the video of the fight is the only way to truly understand what happened that evening. * One night though in K-1 standup fighting he did impress many as he won three bouts in a row in 2005 to become a grand prix champion of the event. * Sapp has been in several movies. Two worth noting were The Longest Yard (2005) and Elektra (2005).
