UFC 96 Results main event of the evening ended up being a very entertaining one, as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson [-325] was the SBGglobal.com Sports Odds favorite to defeat Keith “The Dean of Mean” Jardine [+250]. Closer than anticipated, the fight was pretty much decided in the final 10 seconds. By far, Jardine’s best round was the opening one, when he looked to have Jackson hurt, but couldn’t capitalize. “I don’t remember what happened you gotta tell me,” Jackson stated during a post-fight interview. “… I just remember bits and pieces: I remember him dazing me, that's all I remember, me getting dazed.”

In round 2, Jackson took control of the fight, scoring huge points with takedowns and a knockdown. “I think I could have done a lot better,” Rampage said in his post-fight conference. “Jardine is a tough opponent, my camp is happy with what I did. He went down, I think that was the first round wasn’t it? He went down, I tried to pounce on him, but he recovered and got up. He was pissing me off, I’m like man, ‘why don’t you just take your ugly ass down, let me knock you out’. But he wouldn’t go, man. He’s tough, much respect.”

Jardine’s game plan was obvious, much like Forrest Griffin’s, as he kept mixing his punches with various kicks, which Rampage wasn't checking. Through the fight, Jardine kept landing good kicks to Jackson’s body, one of them being a low one, which landed right in between Jackson’s legs. “The fight went pretty close the way I thought it would go,” Jardine said.

In round 3 and with the fight on the line, Rampaged stepped up his intensity and Jardine simply couldn’t match it. “The Dean of Mean” was clearly winded, breathing hard and struggling to hold up the weight of his arms. Jackson dominated the final round with great takedown defense, landing solid punches, and even scored a takedown of his own. In the final seconds of the match, Rampage left no doubt, knocking Jardine on his wallet, as time expired. The judges unanimously scored the bout 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27 in favor of Quinton Jackson.

“I’m pretty pissed off right now, one of the judges told me I lost the fight in the last 10 seconds, and that’s pretty hard to take,” Jardine stated in his conference. “It was a tough fight, I though I did everything right… I came in the best shape of my life… I don’t know if it was the lateness or what, but had a little bit of a problem with my conditioning.”

“… It was a hell of a fight, my jaw hurt, I hyperextended both of my elbows, my ass hurt, he kicked me in the ass one time didn’t he,” Rampage added. “It just frustrating when you’re trying to knock a guy out. I tried to knock his head off but he won’t go down.”

After the fight, reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, Rashad Evans, who was doing commentating with Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg during the fight, entered the octagon and immediately got in Jackson’s face. Both fighters exchanged pleasantries while invading each other’s personal space. “What’s wrong with that boy getting in my face like that?” Jackson stated in his post fight interview. “He lucky I’m a professional, where I’m from you don’t get in somebody’s face like that… especially when your breath be smelling like that. You don’t get in nobody’s face like that. Rashad what’s wrong with you, man?” Rampage asked. “I’m gonna train for you real hard, real hard. You saw me today like a bit overtrained… I’m gonna be well rested for your ass.  It’s gonna be on.”
