UFC 98: Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir 2 Fight Postponed

UFC 98: Brock Lesnar (3-1) vs. Frank Mir (12-3) 2 Fight Postponed: The biggest news to come out of UFC 96 was the fact that the much-anticipated rematch between UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar vs. UFC interim heavyweight champ, Frank Mir, would no longer be taking place on May 23rd in Las Vegas, Nevada in UFC 98.

Due to a knee injury and surgery, Frank Mir will not be ready in time for his UFC 98 fight against Lesnar, and thus, reigning UFC light heavyweight champion “Sugar” Rashad Evans will fight UFC 96 victor, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, in UFC 98’s main event.

During the pay-per-view airing of UFC 96, Frank Mir spoke with Mike Goldberg, and explained what happened. “My knee finally just went,” Mir stated. “I’ve always had a bad knee… it’s an injury that I’ve always sucked up and dealt with… A couple of weeks ago it popped on me. I notified the UFC what happened, and immediately last Thursday, I was in surgery.

“The doctors told me I have 4-6 weeks from this Monday, that my leg would be at 80%. And then I can go ahead and start sparring and rolling at that point. That puts me five weeks out from the fight… I would like to push this off a couple of weeks and fight July 11, that way I can have a little bit more time for my leg to be close to 100%, so I can perform at the ability that I want to. I don’t wanna go out there and have any excuses against Brock Lesnar… I wanna go out there and perform my very best, when it comes to getting back my title.”
