Manny Pacquiao is the #2 pound-4-pound boxer on the planet right now but if he defeats #3 pound-4-pound Juan Manuel Marquez tonight is Pacquiao the new pound-4-pound king? Unbeaten Welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. currently reigns supreme in the boxing world but when you take a closer look at Mayweather and Pacquiao’s recent resumes the Pac-man has beaten the better foes. BodogLife.com has Manny Pacquiao as a -220 boxing betting favorite in Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez II. With recent wins over Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Carlos Baldomir and Zab Judah, it is debatable if any of those fighters are even top-10 pound-4-pound entrants. Pacquiao has taken out formerly legit top-5 pound-4-pound Mexicans Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera and is now getting ready for Marquez. While one can point to the fact that Mayweather still has an unblemished record he has picked and chosen his battles to some degree much like former legend Sugar Ray Leonard. BodogLife.com has the OVER\UNDER at 11.5 rounds with the OVER at -175 for Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather is a master at defense. Pacquiao is an offensive killing machine. As the old boxing adage goes: A great offense is the best defense. When breaking down pound-4-pound match-ups I like to compare skill level as the true indicator. I took the time to analyze and break down these two fighters skills at their current weights heading into tonight’s fight. Mayweather has the edge now but if Pacquiao wins convincingly these ratings could change. Pacquiao Mayweather Power: 10 7 Boxing: 7 10 Speed: 9 9 Stamina: 8 10 Defense: 7 10 Durability: 9 7 Agility: 7 9 In-fighting: 9 9 Intelligence: 7 10 Heart: 9 7 Total: 82 88
