Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon lightweight battle ended at 3:28 of round 2 when Kenny Florian scored a TKO via strikes. The #4 ranked UFC BodogLife.com. lightweight Florian had stiff resistance from #6 ranked Lauzon, (15-3), in the first round as Joe was aggressive and skillful with his ground game. Florian, (9-3), used some slicing elbows to the top and back of Lauzon’s skull to open up a decent gash that bled throughout the bout.
Lauzon came on strong towards the second half of the round as he almost submitted Florian with a vicious knee bar. Florian showed great escape ability as he got back to his feet after some harrowing moments where he was close to tapping out. In the second both fighters started with exchanging kicks standing up but the fight quickly made it’s way back to the mat. The 5’10” Florian showed himself to be stronger than Joe Lauzon throughout as he imposed his will on the 23-year old with relentless pressure.
In the second Lauzon was dangerous as he had Florian in early trouble on the ground but Florian once again escaped danger. Kenny made some smart Jiu-Jitsu moves to position himself on Lauzon’s chest and he began to go to work with strikes. Lauzon blocked effectively with his arms and hands but Florian prevented Joe Lauzon from being able to fight back by throwing non-stop. After some 1-2 strikes and a couple of elbows and hammer fists landed the referee had seen enough. The 31-year old Florian showed why he is a top-5 lightweight and a rematch with Sean Sherk whom he lost to in October of 2006 via decision could be interesting with Sherk off the juice now.
