Paul Williams (36-1, 27 KO’s) vs. Winky Wright (51-4-1, 25 KO’s) Fight Odds Preview: The Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, will be the sight for this non-title middleweight bout between Paul Williams vs. Winky Wright, and it can be seen live on regular HBO.
According to Online Boxing oddsmakers at SportsBook.com, the younger fighter, Paul Williams [-200 M.L.] has been listed as the Sports Odds favorite to be the victor in his middleweight fight against underdog, Winky Wright [+160 M.L.].
The 27-year-old Williams still has much to prove despite having all the tools to become a Hall of Fame fighter. Wright, 37, is currently on the back end of a brilliant boxing career, which will certainly secure him a spot in the Hall of Fame. Nevertheless, it’s easy to understand why all the pressure would squarely be on Williams to produce.
Tonight’s HBO telecast opens up with a great documentary on Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier 3 fight at 8 PM ET (5 PM PT), followed by the first look at “24/7: Pacquiao-Hatton”. HBO’s Paul Williams vs. Winky Wright Fight Odds Preview kicks off with what should be a very entertaining heavyweight bout between Cristobal Arreola and Jameel McCline at 10 PM ET.
Thus far, Williams has put together an impressive 36-1 record, and has already avenged his only loss by knocking out Carlos Quintana in the first round of their rematch. Nevertheless, Williams has failed to become a main fan-attraction, as reflected by his ticket sales. Few, however, of Williams’ fights have left fans wanting more and he’s yet to prove his name on a marquee will translate into ticket sales.
So what is Williams doing to chance that? He is promising an exciting scrap, as he intends to stand to-to-toe with Winky until someone goes down. “He can block. He can jab (but it won’t matter),” Williams said. “He’s going to have to come fight me. That will leave him open for shots. That’s what I’m looking for. I’m not looking to sit around and wait. I’m going to make him work. … I come to fight. And he knows that.
“It’s going to be an explosive fight. It’s not going to be boring, because he’s blocking. I’m going to hit him and make some openings.”
