UFC 112 Results: Anderson Silva Dishonorably Beats Demian Maia: Everyone that follows the UFC closely knows that Anderson Silva’s last few fights at middleweight have been nothing to write home about. Last night, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship attempted to reach a new market in the Middle East, The Spider chose the absolute worst time to put together the most disrespectful and dishonorable performance of his MMA career, his boss let him know about it and frankly, I couldn’t agree more.
“Believe me I’ll answers the questions of what a disgrace the main event was and what an embarrassment it is,” UFC president Dana White said at the UFC 112 Results conference. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more embarrassed in the 10 years of being in this business.”
Hyped up as the clear, undisputed, best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and an ambassador/class act in the world of mixed martial arts by White himself, Anderson Silva was anything but, Saturday night against Demian Maia.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever walked out on a main event and given the belt to the guy’s manager and tell him to put it on him,” White continued. “This was a historic event for us, the arena tonight was incredible, the energy was amazing and to end it the way that we did is an embarrassment for me, the Fertittas, the UFC and the sport in general.”
Sure, Silva got the (unanimous decision) victory and expanded his record-setting win streak 11, but lost many fans in the process with his antics and disrespectful showboating towards his opponent. It was just absolutely unnecessary what this guy was doing… I mean, seriously, it looked like he was on drugs, before he clearly ran out of gas and began his little marathon he ran.
“In the first couple of rounds he started to, you know, showboating and doing whatever he was doing, and that’s not what I’m in to. I don’t like it” White said. “If you’re that talented, be Mike Tyson and go in and finish it in two minutes.”
Topping it all off, after watching what looked like a circus animal entertaining just another venue, Silva couldn’t finish the fight and was in fact, cowardly running from Maia. He was avoiding engaging with Maia so much, that referee in charge, Dan Miragliotta, was forced to threaten to take away a point if he continued to circle around like a carousel.
“I rather have somebody say: let’s not buy the Anderson Silva fight tonight because he knocks people out in two minutes, other than he rounds around like a jackass for five rounds,” White said. “I apologize and I will, I don’t know how yet, but I will make this up for the fans that bought this s*** tonight.”
Here's the kicker: Silva said he didn't owe anyone an apology during his UFC 112 Results post-fight press conference!
"I don't feel like I owe anyone an apology right now,” he said. “Sometime's fights turn out good, sometimes they turn out bad. The way I feel is my mission was completed. I came in and dominated the fight. My goal in the fight was to finish the fight if i had the opportunity to. I wanted to come in to make a point. "
