It was despicable how bad Glen Johnson got robbed by judges Peter Trematerra, Jack Woodburn and Nicolas Hidalgo in his fight with Chad Dawson Saturday night. Those three judging magoos snaked the earnest and hard working 39-year old year old true champion Glen Johnson who kicked Chad Dawson’s ass for 12 rounds. In practically every round of the Glen Johnson vs Chad Dawson fight Johnson had Dawson hurt and staggering from his brutal hooks, uppercuts and crosses. Johnson was a +290 boxing betting underdog at bodoglife.com
Dawson gave Johnson his best shots with explosive salvos but Johnson put the heat on Dawson, and was never hurt by the strong 6’1” 25-year old’s punches. Both fighters hammered away with body shots all night long, but Dawson was feeling the effects, and was running for his life by the 7th round. The old, savvy, pro, Johnson, broke Dawson down with his pressure and volumes of accurate punches down the stretch. Dawson was running when Johnson nailed him with a dynamite right hand bolo punch that had Dawson out on his feet in the 10th round. Dawson bloodied and battered, clutched at Johnson for dear life, as Johnson bullied Dawson around the ring like a ragdoll. Johnson couldn’t finish the job as Dawson survived the round. In the 11th and 12th round Johnson owned the still hurt Dawson. Dawson showed his gameness by unloading with some flashy combos but Johnson’s great defense rolled with most of Dawson’s heavy punches. The final scores read 117-111 all for a dubious win for still W.B.C champion Chad Dawson who was booed by the crowd. Dawson fought a good fight but he was beaten without question. My scorecard read 116-111 for Glen Johnson one of boxings few good guys who got screwed after fighting the fight of his life by bum judges: Peter Trematerra, Jack Woodburn and Nicolas Hidalgo. Johnson emotionally said this after the bout: “I can’t believe they would do this to me when I‘m on my last leg…Something needs to be done about boxing…It’s all about politics and who you know…I told Dawson’s promoter I would give Dawson a rematch if he lost…” Dawson on the other hand seemed completely uninterested in fighting Johnson again while the crowd booed him. You really have to feel for the hard working good guy Johnson. Those judges took the dirty money and they could careless about all the blood, sweat and tears Johnson put in to prepare for Dawson. Glen “The Gentleman” has every right to have a bad taste in his mouth. Simply disgusting.
