Dana White Threatens to Cut Anderson Silva from UFC: As we reported earlier, UFC middleweight champion, Anderson “The Spider” Silva will not be getting his wish — to fight UFC welterweight title-holder Georges St-Pierre — following one of the worst displays of sportsmanship the fight world has ever seen, in his UFC 112 bout versus Demian Maia. Instead, Anderson Silva [-500 ML] will be taking on a guy that has already been listed as a huge sports betting odds underdog in American wrestler, Chael Sonnen [+300 ML] later this year. But that’s not all!
According to UFC president Dana White, The Spider will not only be on a leash from here on out, but it will be a very short one. In a recent interview with ESPN, White clearly stated that if Silva were to do anything similar to what he did in Abu Dhabi, he would find himself filing for unemployment.
“If he ever acts like that again in the ring, I will cut him,” White said. “I don’t care if he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I don’t care if he is the middleweight champion. I will cut him, absolutely.”
Silva earned a unanimous decision victory over the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Mestre in a way that upset a lot of people at UFC 112. One of those angry viewers was none other than Sonnen, who was and continues to be very critical of Silva’s Octagon antics.
Obviously this is all in an attempt to earn the right to get in the cage with the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Nevertheless, I cant say it’s not entertaining. “[Silva is] really good. He’s really effective, and he’s as unpleasing to watch as grass growing,” Sonnen said. “That’s why they called me to get rid of this cancer of the company.”
