UFC Dana White Rips Strikeforce Brawl on CBS: The ongoing feud between the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s president Dana White and Showtime executives dates back a few years now. With CBS agreeing to take a chance on a deal with Strikeforce/Showtime and with the ensuing brawl that broke out on national television following the Jake Shields vs Dan Henderson bout last Saturday night, White has plenty of ammunition to fire.
Moments after Shields defeated former UFC star Dan Henderson to retain the Strikeforce middleweight title,
Jason Miller made his way into the cage. As Shields handled his post-fight duties, “The Mayhem” his confronting the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt about a rematch, which set off an embarrassing all-out brawl that was captured by CBS cameras.
In the middle of the scuffle were Shields’ teammates, Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and UFC fighter Nathan Diaz, as they all pounced on Miller. White addressed his fighter’s involvement in the melee.
“Have you ever seen him do that at one of my shows?” White asked of Nathan Diaz. The UFC president also stated that there would be no punishment for his fighter’s actions Saturday night, instead fully blaming Showtime execs for the incident.
“Of course, everyone thinks I’m anti-competition, but I’m not,” White said. “But everyone knows that they didn’t belong on CBS. Even if you’re the biggest UFC hater out there, you know that. Shame on CBS for this. They knew they should have been with us, but they went out and let those Showtime idiots talk them into going with Elite XC.
“Now, they’re stuck with a bush league, C-level promotion that will probably be out of business next month,” he added. “And what you saw on Saturday is the kind of thing that happens when you put a product like that on national television.”
