Jose Aldo vs Urijah Faber Betting Odds WEC 48 Fight Picks: ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California, will be the sight for the World Extreme Cagefighting’s 48th event — but the first on pay-per-view television — as two of the biggest little men in the sport will meet for the right to be called the WEC featherweight champion of the world. “This is a great card with great fighters on it,” UFC president Dana White said. “Should this card be less than what normal cards are? This is a card full of talented guys and you’re going to get a great night of fights for $45.”
Standing in one corner will be a man with no introduction, especially for Sac-Town fans, as the most prominent name in the WEC, the “California Kid” (23-3-0) Urijah Faber [+230 ML] gets another shot at getting WEC his title back. Faber has been listed by most sportsbooks in the world as the sports betting odds underdog tonight!
“I think the guy that poses a threat to Aldo is a guy that’s just as fast as he is, also has dangerous strikes but has the advantage of dictating where the fight goes,” Faber said. “He’s overmatched the other guys that he’s fought; he’s at a different level than his opponents. But I’ll be the first guy that will be able to match his speed … its Jose Aldo’s belt right now – but in my mind, that’s my belt. My belief is that I should have that belt.”
But regaining his belt will perhaps be the biggest challenge in Faber’s stellar career, as he will be toe-to-toe with the man many are already including in the talks for best pound-for-pound fighters in the world: WEC featherweight champion and sports betting odds favorite, (16-1-0) Jose Aldo “Junior” [-290 ML]. To retain his belt, Aldo has decided to fight in the place where his opponent is adored: in SACTO!
“Aldo wanted to fight Faber in his hometown,” White added. “It’s pretty nasty. That shows what kind of fighter this kid is.”
“My first fight in the U.S. was here,” Aldo said through Anderson Silva’s manager, Ed Soares. “I’ve always felt comfortable here. This is like my home away from home. It’s my third time fighting here. They weren’t going to have the fight in Rio de Janeiro [Aldo’s hometown], so this is the best place. I know the crowd will be behind him, but I don’t understand what they’re saying anyway. I’ll just be listening to my corner.”
Aldo has gone through the competition at the WEC like a hot knife through butter, undefeated and with none of his fights going the distance. In his 6 fights in the WEC, Aldo has 6 TKO’s and three of those opponents haven’t lived long enough to see the second round. Here’s the best part: Aldo has done all of this, without having to show his world class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu game!
“I’m a black belt in jiu-jitsu and as a mixed martial artist you have to prepare for wherever the fight may go, so I prepared with a lot of wrestling and jiu-jitsu,” he said. “Urijah is a great fighter, but nobody is taking my belt.”
The Brazilian is coming off an 8-second destruction of Cub Swanson with a pair of flying scissor-knees that ended the fight on impact. Aldo followed that win by defeating the only man to beat Faber twice in former WEC featherweight title-holder and American Top Team standout, (23-5-0) Mike Brown by 2nd Round TKO. Nevertheless, the underdog still believes he can regain what he considers to be his belt.
“The bottom line is I’m just a whole different fighter than Mike Brown is, and this is a whole different matchup, and I’ve been training my whole life for this stuff,” said Faber said. “I don’t know what my takedown plan is, but I’m not scared to stand with the guy. I’m really difficult to hit and that’s why I’ve been able to sometimes fight six times a year. I want to be able to take him down if the opportunity surfaces, but I’m not desperately looking for a takedown.”
