Julio Cesar Chavez has been following his father footsteps so far in his young pro career fighting and winning often with his left hook being his weapon of choice. On Saturday night Julio Chavez Jr., 35-0-1, 28 KO’s, will meet undefeated Italian Tobia Giuseppe Loriga, 24-0-1, 6 KO’s, in a 10-round Jr. middlewight bout on PPV TV at 10 PM ET.
The fresh faced, lanky 6'0" Chavez Jr. has been matched carefully by his powerful promotional Top Rank but on Saturday night he will meet a hungry 31-year old Italian challenger that is coming to fight
in America for the first time in his 5-year pro career after fighting exclusively in Italy. The 5'11" Tobia Giuseppe Loriga is a boxer that is well-conditioned and active with good agility. Loriga is also more experienced having gone or more 10 rounds 6 times while the 22-year old Chavez Jr. has been 10 rounds only once.
Chavez Jr. is a well-schooled and exciting fighter with good speed, power and body punching. Julio Jr. Can be hit however and his skinny body looks to be an inviting target to body punches. At times Chavez Jr. Also neglects to take advantage of his long reach with his jab and shows that he is still a green fighter with a lot to learn after a brief amateur background. Chavez Jr. is being groomed for a big money bout against a name opponent but his fight against Loriga will be a final exam to see if he is ready for the 154 Lb. division’s big dogs.
