by Abe Luciano on Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Chuck Liddell vs Rashard Evans for UFC 85 was called off due Liddell tearing his hamstring but a great replacement bout has been made between Matt Serra vs Thiago Alves for the June 7th card. The MMA betting odds for the UFC 85 heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum vs Brandon Vera have Vera as a 6-5 favorite.

Serra (42-6) is the former UFC 170 Lb. welterweight champion and the current #1 contender for the belt that Georges St. Pierre currently holds. The Brazilain Thiago Alves (18-4) is a legit top-10 MMA wUFC 85: Matt Serra vs Thiago Alves fill in for Liddell boutelterweight that is riding a 5 fight winning streak heading into his fight with Serra. Hughes must be careful not to overlook the dangerous striker Alves as he has stated that he is eagerly awaiting a fight with his rival Matt Hughes.

Serra had this to say: "June 7, in England, I fight Thiago. The fight is confirmed, (and) it will be the main event for the card. Dana (White) just called me with the news." Despite being unknown to the mainstream fighting public, Alves is a damn tough cookie and is coming off an impressive win over Karo Parisyan at UFC Fight Night 13. Serra is the household name and I would expect him to open as a 5-2 to 3-1 MMA betting favorite for this UFC 85 fight in England.
