Manny Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KO’s) Boxing Odds Profile: As Manny Pacquiao looks to cement his name as the undisputed pound-for-pound king of boxing, when he takes on Ricky Hatton this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, no one is doubting that he will have his hand raised at night’s end.

No one, including Boxing Odds Profile makers at SportsBook.com, who have listed “The People’s Champ”, Manny Pacquiao [-270 ML] as a significant Sports Odds favorite to win his May 2nd bout against “The Pride of Hyde” Ricky Hatton [+210 ML].

But how is Manny Pacquiao so glorified, considering the casual American boxing fan is oblivious to his might? In order to understand this man’s mystic, you have to look at the place where he became what he is today: a monster in between the ropes but a hero among the people.

International Hall of Famer, Bob Arum was recently in the Philippines promoting a pay-per-view card, when he received great insights on this great, beloved warrior.

While enjoying a succulent dinner with Imelda Marcos, the former first lady of the island, Arum detailed some of their conversation. “She knows all about Manny and how he fights and all the charitable things he does for the people of the Philippines,” Arum said. “We had a lengthy conversation about Manny, what he’s doing now and his future down there.”

Arum continues, “We talked at length about that and she gave me very good input,” Arum said. “It’s not a joke. My fervent hope is that he’ll be remembered as a great fighter who became the leader of his country… I think he’ll run for congress again and win. He is so smart and has such an affinity for his people, he’s totally dedicated to them. I then believe he’ll be the president of the country within 10 years.”

Considering the Philippines’ great appreciation for the sport, who can forget the epic 1975 bout in Manila between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, having one of their own in the spotlight means that much more to them. “There isn’t a country in the world where they love boxing more,” Arum said of the Philippines. “There are some, like Mexico, where it’s equally huge, but the Filipinos have a great passion for this sport. And they all have this great love and great admiration for Manny. It’s a national event when he fights.”
