Ricky Hatton Exposes Weaknesses in Manny Pacquiao? They say it’s all fair in love and war… but not in boxing? In the finals days leading up to the biggest boxing event of the year, fighters are focused on game plan execution and gaining an edge over their opponent.
But did Ricky Hatton Expose Weaknesses in Manny Pacquiao during a recent interview with a British paper called "The Telegraph" or did he telegraph his strategy against the pound-for-pound king, or is it just bluff? You decide!
When “The Hitman” recently spoke to The Telegraph, Pacquiao’s camp was all over it, posting the entire interview as an “exclusive” on Manny Pacquiao’s Internet page, “PACLAND”.
Currently, Manny Pacquiao [-275 ML] is listed as the Sports Odds favorite to defeat Ricky Hatton [+125 ML] in Saturday night’s junior welterweight championship fight, in every major Online Sports Betting Odds site and all over Las Vegas, NV.
In the interview, The Telegraph asked Ricky Hatton what he has seen he could exploit when he meets Manny Pacquiao this Saturday night at the MGM Grand. Here’s Hatton’s response:
"I don't think Manny has the best defense in the world. I know I don't either, but I've been watching a lot of tapes of his fights, studying him very closely with Lee Beard, and he gets hit a fair few times himself, and he has been shaken up in fights, and he has been stopped with body shots in the past by smaller men and men who are not naturally as aggressive as Ricky Hatton. Or for that matter, as big, strong and aggressive as Ricky Hatton. There will be chances there, and is he going to be able to take it?”
Pac-man’s speed however is something that no one can deny. Even if you knew nothing about “The Destroyer” before his Oscar De La Hoya fight, the hand-speed display he put on in that fight was like a clinic.
Nevertheless, Hatton grasps that, but still believes he can counter whatever the Filipino throws at him. “Of course, I understand he has very very fast hands, that south paw stance, a tricky 'in and out' style and I know I will have to take a shot, but all things considered, the way I am better defensively now, faster hands, setting up my attacks, my angles are better, with my all round skills I think I have an answer in every single department… When Manny attacks, he runs in off balance, loads up with the left and sometimes misses. I think he is there to hit then, and if I hit him…"
Hatton’s trainer, Floyd Mayweather, was also quite open about their plan "to go downstairs" in the fight. A difficult proposition considering Pacquiao’s speed and accuracy, and the likelihood that Hatton may leave himself open for counters and upper cuts.
