Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa from the Bronx slowly wore down tough Mexican Luis Rodriguez in 12 rounds by scores of: 118-110, 117-111 and 116-112 to retain his 140 Lb. N.A.B.F Title. The southpaw “El Gato” Figueroa used a consistent workrate and pressure to harass the skinny 23-year old Rodriguez, 22-2, 13 KO’s. The stocky 5'6" Figueroa was much broader in the shoulders than Rodriguez in the ring. It has been reported that Figueroa trains all the way down from 170 Lbs and he mauled Rodriguez for most of the night. The fight was never in question as Figueroa dominated as a top heavy -1200 Boxing Betting favorite at Sportsbook.com.
“El Gato” cut Rodriguez above the eye and dished out punishment all night long with bodypunches and right hooks. Figueroa prepared for the fight sparring with Shane Mosley and Frankie's reflexes, timing and conditioning were good. Having had only 18 amateur fights Figueroa, 19-2, has improved and might have a big money bout in his future with possibly Ricky Hatton or Paulie Palignaggi Figueroa fought the Rodriguez fight under the Seeno group promotions banner but it was whispered that Frankie Figueroa has other offers.
