Andre Ward Defeats Edison Miranda by Unanimous Decision: Unbeaten, Andre Ward remains after defeating Edison Miranda by unanimous decision Saturday night at Oracle Arena, in the biggest win of his professional career. With the victory, Ward is almost certain to get a title shot at 168, as he showed tremendous resilience against the Colombian.

Going into the fight, Boxing oddsmakers at SportsBook.com had listed Andre Ward [-300 ML] as a clear Sports Odds favorite to defeat the underdog, Edison Miranda Saturday night.

After suffering a gash over his left eye — resulting from a head-butt — midway through the first round, Ward showed why he is an (2004) Olympic gold medalist.

The American showed tremendous skill and ability, especially in the later rounds, despite not scoring a knockout, as he was taken the distance for just the second time in his career. The OVER\UNDER for the Andre Ward vs. Edison Miranda bout is at a combined total of 9½ rounds.

“This is kind of a bittersweet victory,” Ward said. “I’m happy and excited because the fans had a good time, and there were a lot of people here, but I’m not 100 percent happy with my performance. I’ve got to go look at the tape. I did some things well, but I felt I could have improved in other areas.”

When it was all said and done, the fight was in the judges’ hands. No controversy here, as two judges scored the fight 119-109 for Ward, while the third favored him 116-112. “I thought it was going to be easier, but it was tougher than I was expected,” said Miranda. “I don’t feel cheated. Andre is the champion. I have respect for him."
