Sergio Mora captured his first world title in his first attempt when he captured the W.B.C 154 lb. title over Vernon Forrest . Sergio Mora is the first out of three cast members from the Contender reality TV series to win a world title. Vernon Forrest was regarded as a top-20 pound-4-pound boxer and was favored at -600 chalk at Bodoglife.com. Get the best inside boxing betting info from Las Vegas handicappers! Forrest started the fight strongly by wining the first three rounds by boxing hard counterpunches mixed in with right uppercuts and left hooks on the inside. At first it seemed like the 27-year-old Mora, 21-0-1, 5 KO’s, was on his way to being outclassed by the 37 year-old classy vet. In the 4th round Forrest began to show early signs of fatigue as his handspeed dropped and Mora started scoring with fast combinations. Mora found a rhythm and Forrest was unable to get off as Mora controlled the 4th round. From that point on, the tide had turned in Mora’s favor and Forrest was lethargic and unable to hit Mora with anything significant. Mora displayed a high energy level coupled with a snappy jab. Sergio's clever feints allowed Mora to dominate Vernon. The 9th round featured a Forrest rally that saw both men eat good leather but Mora was still the stronger and fresher fighter. Switch hitting from righty to lefty Mora bloodied Forrest’s lip in the 11th round and outworked the aging ex-champ. The final scores read: 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114 for a Sergio Mora Majority Decision win.
