Brett Rogers TKOs Andrei Arlovski in Strikeforce Odds: This weekend at the Scottrade Center, Strikeforce matched up one of the all-time favorite MMA heavyweights in Andrei Arlovski versus a hungry up-and-coming Brett Rogers, and the outcome couldn’t have been predicted.
The former UFC heavyweight champ, who was coming off a knockout loss to Fedor Emelianenko, was stunned in just 22 seconds of the first round in what could be argued as an early stoppage by referee John McCarthy.
Nevertheless, the older more experienced Belarusian found himself in a position he shouldn’t have been in from the beginning, as he allowed Rogers to dictate the pace of the bout.
The 28-year-old, Rogers, who's most famous for calling out Kimbo Slice, has now improved to 10-0 in his MMA fighting career, with 9 of his victories coming by knockout.
However, Arlovski is the first real "big-name" fighter he defeats after fighting in the EliteXC for most of his career. “I wanted to show everyone I’m not in there to play around,” Rogers said.
Consider one of the best heavyweights in the world, the 30-year-old, Arlovski underestimated a hungrier, more aggressive fighter, who exposed The Pitbull’s infamous glass jaw.
“I’m ready for whatever, man,” Rogers said. “I was planning on picking that (heavyweight title) up today, but it was kind of pushed back. I hope he’s keeping that belt good and clean for me.”
What does the future have in store for Rogers? If he can win his August fight against Overeem, Rogers should get the chance to fight the biggest names available.
“I’m not the only guy who started in the working world,” Rogers said. “This was a perfect opportunity and this sport is all about timing. Definitely this is my time and I’m just going to keep on working.”
What does the future have in store for Arlovski?
The fang-mouthpiece wearing Kickboxer was so confident of a victory that he’d already agreed to a June 27 boxing match at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Of course, the possibility of that happening went right out the window when McCarthy called the fight against Rogers.
