UFC 99: Rich Franklin vs Wanderlei Silva Betting Odds

by Abe Luciano on Saturday, June 13th, 2009

UFC 99 Rich Franklin (24-4, 11-3 UFC) vs. Wanderlei Silva (32-9-1, 2-4 UFC) Betting Odds: UFC 99 main event features two former champions going at each other’s throats, as former PRIDE middleweight champion Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva takes on former UFC title-holder, Rich “Ace” Franklin, at a catch weight of 195 pounds.

"The UFC had spoken to me on several occasions about moving to 205 before I actually moved up to this weight class, and I was kind of resistant at first because I'm not really a big 205-pound fighter even though I started my career here," Franklin said.

"But, I will say that fighting at 205 pounds in 2000 or 2002 is different than me fighting at 205 pounds in 2009. It's just the sport's a different animal now. What I've tried to avoid is jumping back and forth in between, which is exactly why this fight was negotiated at 195 pounds," Rich added.

All the action for this UFC 99: Rick Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva Betting Odds starts this afternoon, beginning at 12 PM ET (9 AM PT), with the main event scheduled for 3 PM ET. UFC 99 will mark the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first event in Lanxess Arena, Germany, and it can be seen on pay-per-view.

Going into this fight, Online MMA UFC 99 Odds makers at Bodog.com have listed Rich Franklin [-175 ML] as the UFC 99 Sports Odds favorite to defeat the UFC 99 Betting Odds underdog Wanderlei Silva [+145 ML].

Why are UFC 99 Odds makers giving the edge to Franklin? Well, one of the reasons may very well be the Ace’s preparation for this fight. Another one may also be perhaps the right strategy. In any case, the American must have some valuable information in preparation for this fight.

Throughout his training, Franklin has been assisted by none other than The Axe Murderer’s former training partner and the UFC middleweight champion, Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

Due to some bad blood, the former partners at the infamous Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil have taken their feud to another level. Anderson, who felt that Wanderlei used his influence to prevent him from getting quality fights in PRIDE, volunteered his knowledge and offered to train Franklin to beat Wanderlei in UFC 99.

According to the Axe Murderer, Anderson’s move can be seen as a sign of fear. "Before, he was my friend, and I trained with him for a long time," Wanderlei said. "But now he's started talking bulls*** about me in Brazil, and I don't know why."
