Michael Bisping UFC 100 Fighter Profile: Michael Bisping (17-1-0), from Lancashire, is an exciting English mixed martial artist who is currently in the highly anticipated UFC 100 fight card on July 11th 2009. In UFC 100, Bisping is going up against wrestling extraordinaire, Dan Henderson in a fight that will determine the UFC Middleweight’s No.1 contender for a title-shot against current UFC champ, Anderson Silva.
Seemingly born a fighter, Bisping showed an early interest in martial arts and began training in a traditional form of Jujutsu known as Yawara Ryu, at the tender age of 8. At 15 he fought as an amateur in England at competitions that were at that time predecessors to the current MMA.
Bisping continued to fight, but after some time off, was given some great advice and began to train in kickboxing as well as karate.
After being successful in kickboxing, Bisping soon found out he had to unwillingly quit fighting to get a real job and become a man.
“The Count” did everything from working in factories, to slaughterhouses, postman, tiler, plasterer… you name it, and he probably did it.
But in 2003, Bisping tracked down Paul Lloyd Davies, his old trainer, who took him under his wing and introduced him to the new world, the world of what mixed martial arts had turned into.
Bisping made his mixed martial art debut in “Pride & Glory 2: Battle of the Ages” on April 4, 2004, with an impressive 38 second armbar victory. Bisping started out in the UFC in early 2006, as a fighter in the Ultimate Fighter reality television series.
Bisping trained under Tito Ortiz and was successful, as he defeated Josh Haynes by TKO at 4:14 of the second round. This made Bisping the second light heavyweight winner of the Ultimate Fighter series. In UFC 66, Bisping defeated Eric Schafer by TKO at 4:24 of the first round. On April 21, 2007 Bisping scored a TKO win over Elvis Sinosic at UFC 70 in Manchester, England.
His only loss has been against former UFC light heavyweight champ, Rashad Evans in UFC 78. It was a split decision, 29-28 29-28 28-29, for Evans, who was undefeated until losing his title defense against the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
After losing to Evans, Bisping announced his decision to drop to middleweight division. He made his middleweight debut on April 19th, 2008 at UFC 83 against Charles McCarthy, where he won by TKO.
Bisping continued to win fights in the UFC’s middleweight division, destroying Jason Day ( in UFC 85) with punches on his way to a TKO victory, and later beating out a tough opponent in Chris Leben (by Unanimous Decision) in UFC 89.
