Brock Lesnar UFC 100 Fighter Profile: The rematch that many around the world are waiting for is just around the corner, as UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar and UFC interim champ Frank Mir, prepare for their bout in the greatly anticipated UFC 100. The reigning UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar, is looking to redeem himself and avenge his only loss against Mir, this Saturday July 11th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC 100 Betting Odds makers at SportsBook.com have listed the champ, Brock Lesnar [-240 ML] as the UFC 100 sports betting odds favorite to retain his title against interim UFC heavyweight, underdog champ frank Mir [+190 ML], in a unification bout.
Growing up in a small farm in South Dakota, Lesnar learned the meaning of hard work at a very young age. Before gaining his fame in the World Wrestling Entertainment (former World Wrestling Federation), Brock was a collegiate NCAA wrestling champion.
In 2000, he signed with the WWE and was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling. Lesnar made a big name for himself in the WWE, as he won titles such as King of the Ring in 2002, WWE Undisputed Champion, and winner of the 2003 Royal Rumble. Brock decided to leave the WWE in 2004 in order to pursue a short career in the NFL.
After trying out the NFL, Brock went back to the world of wrestling at the end of 2005. Soon after, Lesnar began his career in Mixed Martial Arts, and signed with the UFC in October 2007 to much criticism due to his background in the staged WWE.
UFC president Dana White was so skeptical that he basically told Lesnar that if he wanted to be in the UFC, he would have to prove himself and fight nothing but the best. Needless to say, Lesnar accepted the offer immediately.
And what a way to start for the big man, as his debut fight was against former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Frank Mir at UFC 81. Lesnar had started off strong, scoring an early takedown and was hammering Mir with huge hammerfists to the face.
After having a point deducted — without any warning, which is to me unheard of — for punching the back of Mir’s head, the fighters were back on their feet. After flush straight shot and another takedown, Mir looked hopeless as Lesnar pounced on him once again pounding his face into the canvas.
Nevertheless, Mir who’s well season in BJJ found the way to secure a kneebar and force a submission at 1:30 of the first round. It was clear that Brock had some work to do, but boy did he look impressive and with a promising future.
Lesnar continued to fight some of the best talents in the UFC’s rather depleated heavyweight division. Since his loss to Mir, Lesnar has had dominating victories that eventually earned him a title-shot. He defeated one of the best big men in the UFC in Heath Herring by battering him and contorilling him on the ground, on his way to a convincing unanimous decision in UFC 87.
Lesnar then went on to become the UFC’s Heavyweight Champion by beating “Captain America”, Randy Couture with a vicious TKO assault in UFC 91. The size difference was tremendous and clearly visible; it almost looked like a video game!
“The Natural” did a decent job of dealing with Lesnar’s un-human size and strength, but got caught with a straight right to the temple that buckled him. After Couture’s legs gave out, it was all but over, as Lesnar jumped right in top of him and almost dented his face in, thus, forcing a referee stoppage at 3 minutes and 07 seconds of the second round.
The match that still hangs over Brock’s head is the one against Frank Mir. There rematch at UFC 100 will take place this weekend, and UFC 100 Betting Odds makers truly believe that the outcome of Lesnar vs. Mir II may be a bit different this time around.
