Frank Mir UFC 100 Fighter Profile

Frank Mir UFC 100 Fighter Profile: Growing up in a martial arts family, Frank Mir learned karate at his father’s Kenpo Karate School in Las Vegas. As he watched his first couple of UFC fights with Royce Gracie, Mir was very difficult to convince on the importance of learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as he was very set in defending his style of fighting.

It’s worth nothing that since Sports-Odds.com posted the opening lines for this gigantic event, UFC 100, the sports betting odds have moved dramatically in favor of the UFC heavyweight champion.

After having opening UFC 100 sports betting odds of -215 ML, Brock Lesnar [-250 ML] is now even a bigger sports betting odds favorite against a declining Frank Mir [+190], who started at +175 ML.

Frequent readers of Sports-Odds had no problem with the line movement for UFC 100, as I predicted that this action would take place if betting for Lesnar. Nevertheless, there’s still time to become part of history, especially if you like Frank Mir [+190 ML] on this fight, who started with a UFC 100 sports betting odds of +175 ML.

"I was fourteen watching the first UFC with my father and everyone was getting taken down and choked out by this scrawny Royce Gracie. I could not believe it was happening! My dad wanted to learn what they were doing right off the bat, but I defended what I already knew. I thought I could adjust for it. I felt I could defend against jiu-jitsu instead of being humble and trying to learn it,” explains Mir.

His father ultimately talked him into learning wrestling, in the hopes of avoiding submissions. Frank Mir was discovered by Joe Silva, the UFC’s current match-maker, who saw a lot of potential in the young fighter.

His first UFC match was against Roberto Travern. Mir defeated Travern in UFC 34, by armbar at 1:05 in the first round. Continuing to show success in the UFC, Mir gained a great accomplishment by becoming the Heavyweight Champion at UFC 48 against Tim Sylvia. This fight ended with Sylvia having a broken right forearm, after Mir’s armbar made him a Champion. Following this fight, Mir earned his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt for his performance in the fight.

After having a serious motorcycle injury, Frank Mir came back into the Octagon fighting different. He lost his first fight back against newcomer Marcio Cruz, and barely won his fight with Dan Christison in UFC 61. After being very disappointed, Mir slowly started to look like his old self again, as he defeated Antoni Hardonk in UFC 74, and an inexperienced Brock Lesnar in UFC 81. Mir then fought a very tough Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92 for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship.

Mir’s defeat over Nogueira set up the rematch with Brock Lesnar, although it is rumored that the Brazilian was so ill for that fight, that he had been ordered to stay in a hospital for 5 days. The rematch will clear all speculation this Saturday night at UFC 100!
