Wladimir Klitschko vs Tony Thompson Fight Results: The clash between heavyweight giants, Wladimir Klitschko (51-3-45) and Tony Thompson (31-2-19), took place Saturday July 12, 2008 from Berlin, Germany for the IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight titles. At BodogLife.com, Wladimir Klitschko was a huge -650 betting odds favorite against Tony Thompson (+450).

Former sparring partners went at it in a classic heavyweight bout Saturday overseas. However, the betting odds and the fight results do not really tell the story of how this fight really happened.

Huge betting underdog, Tony Thompson, didn’t simply show up to get paid, loose, and jump back on a plane to the States; he actually made it quite an interesting contest throughout.

It was cleat that Klitschko’s game plan from the start was to keep Thompson at bait by attack him with jabs.

However, as the fight progressed it was clear that his jab was completely ineffective: “My jab didn’t work, I had to use the right… If plan A doesn’t work, try plan B.”

The crowd was becoming a bit restless, as they booed both fighters towards the late stages of the fight. In the 10th there was a bit of an awkward moment, as the champ pushed Thompson off, but instead ended up loosing his balance and falling on top of the challenger; which also created a sea of boos from the sold out Color Line Arena.

Luckily, the tri-heavyweight champ was able to redeem himself at 1:38 of the 11th round, when he connected with a powerful right-hand which sent Thompson to the canvas for good. Wladimir Klitschko was able to retain his IBF/WBO/IBO championship belts with an 11th-round-KO of Tony Thompson.

Wladimir Klitschko registers his 9th consecutive victory, but it sure wasn’t pretty. There were some moments in the fight when things got a bit sloppy: i.e. a 2nd round head-butt, where both fighters suffered incidental gashes on their eyes.

However, regardless of how ugly or pretty of a victory it was, the champ will take it: “I’m still world champion, but it’s about three titles now… that means everybody that fights me is extra motivated.” Regarding the incidental head-butt, the champ jokingly addressed it by saying: “I haven’t had a black eye for a long time, now I really look like a fighter.”
