Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr. Fight Postponed: ESPN was the first to report that “The Battle of The Planet”, September 20th 2008 fight between Joe Calzaghe (45-0) vs. Roy Jones Jr. (50-4) has been postponed until further notice. The reason for the delay is a sprain right wrist, which the Welshman suffered during a practice session with punching pads. Jones and his camp accepted the delay, citing that they want Calzaghe to be at his best for this fight. Early on at SportsBook.com the betting odds favor Joe Calzaghe (-330) to beat Roy Jones Jr. (+260). In his remarkable 15-year-career, Calzaghe remains undefeated in 45 professional fights. Joe’s father, Enzo Calzaghe spoke to Setanta Sports News regarding the injury and the delay: “He sprain his wrist on the pads… It’s one of those things you never want happen, but it’s happen.” According to Enzo, Joe will need at least 2-3 weeks of rest before he can start punching again. Roy Jones Jr. and his camp also issued out a statement: “Well, sounds like he has a normal but usual injury and he had showed concerns before about before his hand not being ready… I don’t want him to be no less than his best so if this is what it takes for that, then so be it.” The fight is expected to be re-scheduled for later this year. It has been speculated that sometime in November might be a real possibility.
