top-notch trash-talker (26-10-1) Chael Sonnen [+325 ML] will take the beating of his career tonight, as he faces the man many consider to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world in the ever-unpredictable, (26-4-0) Anderson “The Spider” Silva [-450 ML].
But even with the UFC 117 Betting Odds stacked up so high against him, Sonnen isn’t backing down and has gone on a rampage of pure trash-talk. I have to admit that some of the stuff this guy says is pretty darn good material!
“I’m a country-boy, I believe in hard work. I believe in waking up early and contributing to your society,” Sonnen said during the UFC’s Countdown show to UFC 117. “This is a grown man with earrings, crooked hats and pink shirts. I don’t have any room for this guy! If you’re going to be champion behave like it!”
Like many MMA fans, UFC president Dana White and most media outlets, Sonnen has been very critical of Silva’s most recent performances in the Octagon… or lack thereof.
“I loved it that he said he treated Demian Maia that way because Demian disrespected him and didn’t belong in the Octagon with him,” Sonnen said. “Well Anderson, if disrespect doesn’t belong in the Octagon, I don’t belong in the galaxy with you, cause I have no respect for you! So take that, and come do something about it on August 7!”
But Sonnen hasn’t stopped there! The former wrestling champion has gone on to question Silva’s sincerity as a person, and the way he disrespects his opponents and the sport of MMA with his extracurricular showboating in the Octagon.
“Anderson is a liar and Anderson is a fraud,” Sonnen continued. “Anderson lied to us cause he said he would fight Demian Maia and he didn’t go out and fight. That makes him a liar… I have an obligation to make him fight!
“He’s a fraud! Anderson likes to come out, and be really nice, and talk in a soft voice. He loves to bow… hey listen, he’s not from a bowing culture. They don’t bow in Brazil. All this hand-shaking and hugging and bowing… that’s all crap!”
But is clear that Silva has made a conscious effort not to engage in Sonnen’s head-games, as he tries, time and time again to be diplomatic in his pre-fight interviews.
“He’s saying that I’m a fake and a liar,” Silva acknowledged. “Well, you know what, when we are inside the Octagon, he’s going to have to back-up all these things he’s saying about me. I’m relaxed for this fight. I’m used to fighting idiots like him that are talking about me. It’s a constant battle. I’ve beaten idiots all over the world. I realize I can’t tell you who is going to win, but let’s see how he’s acting tomorrow at the weigh-ins.”
